Founded in 1559 with its forerunner in Douai, the University of Lille was reconstituted in 1896 and merged into its current form in 2018, becoming one of France's largest universities in Lille, northern France. The university enrolls nearly 78,000 students across comprehensive programs in science, technology, health, law, economics, management, humanities, and social sciences. With 64 research units and membership in the French Excellence Programme, it is recognized for research in planetary transitions, inflammatory diseases, and archaeology.
